Frequently asked questions.

About Our Clinic

What makes Integra Eyecare the leading choice for eye care in Vancouver and Burnaby?
Integra Eyecare is recognized as a pioneer in medical optometry in British Columbia. Since 2006, our clinics have combined advanced diagnostic technology, highly trained optometrists and ophthalmologists, and a dedicated research department to deliver an unmatched standard of care. Patients choose us because they receive more than a vision check. They receive a complete eye health assessment backed by innovation and collaboration.

Do I need a referral to see an eye doctor at Integra?
No. Anyone can book directly with our optometrists for routine or urgent care. If you are referred by your family doctor or another specialist, we will coordinate care and share results to ensure continuity.

Where are you located?
We proudly serve Metro Vancouver with two locations: Burnaby and Vancouver. Both clinics offer comprehensive exams, advanced imaging, specialty care, and optical boutiques with glasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses.

Eye Exams and General Care

How often should I have an eye exam?
Eye exam frequency depends on age and health. Children should be checked at six months, before starting school, and every year after. Adults should book every one to two years. Seniors and patients with conditions such as diabetes or glaucoma should be seen annually or more often.

What happens during an eye exam at Integra?
Our exams use leading edge diagnostic technology to give you the most complete picture of your eye health. Tests may include optical coherence tomography to detect glaucoma and macular degeneration, retinal photography to monitor the back of the eye, corneal topography for conditions like keratoconus, and meibography for dry eye disease. This technology allows us to detect issues years before they cause vision loss.

Do you provide children’s eye care?
Yes. Our team is experienced in pediatric optometry and myopia management. We provide early detection, specialized treatments, and long term vision care for children, including contact lenses designed to slow myopia progression.

Specialty Clinics

What is dry eye disease and how do you treat it?
Dry eye disease occurs when your eyes do not produce enough quality tears. Symptoms include irritation, redness, fluctuating vision, and discomfort. Integra Eyecare runs one of the most advanced Dry Eye Clinics in Canada. Treatments may include IPL therapy, radiofrequency, meibomian gland expression, prescription drops, and customized home care plans. Our goal is long lasting relief, not just short term comfort.

What is myopia management and why does it matter?
Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is one of the fastest growing vision problems worldwide. Left unchecked, it increases the risk of serious eye disease later in life. At Integra Eyecare, we offer proven strategies to slow myopia progression, including MiSight contact lenses, orthokeratology, and specialized spectacle lenses. Protecting your child’s future vision is at the heart of our myopia program.

Do you fit specialty contact lenses?
Yes. We are leaders in fitting complex lenses including scleral lenses, rigid gas permeable lenses, hybrids, and orthokeratology. These options are ideal for patients with keratoconus, irregular corneas, high prescriptions, or those who have not found success with standard soft lenses.

Insurance and Coverage

Does MSP cover eye exams in British Columbia?
Yes, for certain groups. MSP covers children under nineteen, seniors over sixty five, and medically necessary exams for conditions such as diabetes, glaucoma, eye trauma, or sudden vision loss. Routine adult exams are not covered, but most patients have extended health coverage through their employer or private insurance.

Do you direct bill insurance?
Yes. We can bill most major providers directly, which reduces your out of pocket costs. Please bring your insurance information with you.

Optical Boutique

Do you sell glasses and contact lenses?
Yes. Both clinics feature full optical dispensaries with a curated selection of designer frames, prescription lenses, sunglasses, and all types of contact lenses.

What lens options do you recommend?
We partner with Hoya to provide premium lenses. Using our good, better, best system, we first recommend based on performance and clarity, then align with budget and aesthetics. Options include blue light protection, anti reflective coatings, progressive lenses, and custom designs for advanced visual comfort.

Booking and Appointments

How do I book an appointment?
You can book online through our website in less than a minute or call our Burnaby or Vancouver locations directly. For emergencies such as sudden vision changes, flashes of light, or eye injury, please call right away so we can prioritize your care.

What should I bring to my appointment?
Bring your current glasses, contact lenses, medication list, and insurance information. New patients should arrive ten minutes early for intake forms.

Research and Innovation

Is Integra Eyecare involved in research?
Yes. We are the only private eye clinic in British Columbia with a dedicated research department. We collaborate with leading universities and industry partners to bring the newest treatments and devices to patients before they are widely available.

Can patients join clinical trials?
Yes. If you qualify for one of our ongoing studies, you may be invited to participate. Ask our team during your visit if you are eligible for any trials.
