Myopia Management

Real Care, Real Results

Myopia is becoming one of the most significant eye health challenges of our time. It is not just about blurry vision. It is about protecting the long-term health of a child’s eyes.

Integra has been leading the field in myopia management since 2017, long before it became standard conversation in eye care. We were among the first in Canada to introduce atropine therapy and the first to bring Miyosmart lenses to our patients. We have been fitting orthokeratology and soft myopia control lenses for over a decade, using a careful and personalized approach for each child.

We are the only clinic in British Columbia with two independent axial length measurement systems, the Lenstar and the Myah. Axial length monitoring is the foundation of proper myopia care. Without it, treatment plans are incomplete. At Integra, we do not guess. We track, measure, and adjust with precision.

This work is part of who we are. Dr Reis’ own son, Ben, has been on a customized myopia control plan since childhood. His story was featured in a national Coopervision campaign filmed at their family home, showing what modern myopia care looks like when it is done right.

At Integra, we do not follow trends. We set standards. And when it comes to protecting vision for life, we take that responsibility seriously.

Treatment Options

Every child is different. So is every treatment plan. At Integra, we tailor each approach based on individual needs, clinical data, and long-term goals. Here is a look at the options we offer, all backed by research and guided by real-world experience.

Orthokeratology (AOK)
These custom lenses are worn overnight to gently reshape the surface of the eye. They correct vision during sleep, so there is no need for glasses or contacts during the day. More importantly, they change the way light focuses on the retina to slow the eye’s growth. AOK is especially effective for children with active lifestyles who prefer freedom from daytime lenses. We have been fitting AOK for over a decade and remain one of the most experienced clinics in Canada in this field.

MiSight 1 Day
Coopervision’s MiSight lenses were the first soft contact lenses approved for myopia control. They use a dual-focus design that both corrects vision and slows the progression of myopia in children. MiSight is easy to use, well tolerated, and supported by years of published research. At Integra, we have been using MiSight since its launch. Dr Reis’ own son, Ben, wears them and was featured in a national Coopervision campaign sharing their family’s story.

Abiliti Contact Lenses
Johnson and Johnson’s Abiliti lenses are a newer soft lens option designed specifically for myopia control. These lenses use a unique ring-based design that targets peripheral defocus to help reduce the stimulus for axial elongation. They are daily disposables, offering convenience and comfort with clinical results that are backed by solid data. Abiliti is an excellent option for children not ready for AOK or not suited for other lens designs.

Low-Dose Atropine
Atropine drops are a non-invasive option often used in combination with other treatments. These medicated drops are applied once daily and work by slowing the eye’s growth on a cellular level. We were among the first clinics in Canada to offer atropine therapy and continue to monitor results closely using axial length and prescription changes over time.

Miyosmart Lenses
These spectacle lenses from Hoya use a patented Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segment (DIMS) design. They are worn just like regular glasses, but with a built-in treatment effect that slows myopia progression. Miyosmart lenses are ideal for younger children or those not ready for contact lenses, and have been a game changer for many families seeking a simple and effective first step.
